Who Framed Roger Rabbit | 4K UHD+Blu-ray

There have been a ton of attempts over the last century to bridge the gap between animation and live action. From major Disney films like The Reluctant Dragon to complete outsider projects like Cool World, studios and directors have struggled to balance the boundless creative potential of cartoons with the very grounded necessities of a live action film where actors need chemistry and sets and a sense of the real physical world.

Within that push-pull dynamic, Who Framed Roger Rabbit will forever be the gold standard for how to walk the line. With famed comedy director Robert Zemeckis handling the live action production and exalted animation savant Richard Williams handling the cartoons, this film feels like the ideal realization of humans interacting with a universe of paint and ink.

The idea of a Hollywood 'Toon Town' feels like a completely natural extension of classic cinema. And that there might be a whole human service industry built around the demands of toons couldn't be more obvious. Bob Hoskins develops unbelievable chemistry with Roger Rabbit, despite never actually getting to work with him, and Christopher Lloyd couldn't be better as a villain living in both worlds. A perfect creative blend.
