There is no actor I enjoy more in the pantheon of horror filmmaking that Vincent Price. Despite a long and storied career including Hollywood classics, television, and even a few cookbooks, it's always his work in Horror that makes me appreciate Price the most.
This anthology collects the bulk of the actor's best works, focusing largely on his projects with Roger Corman adapting various Edgar Allan Poe stories to film. The Fall of the House of Usher, The Pit and the Pendulum, and Masque of the Red Death are all wonderful adaptations of Poe's work. I'm especially fond of the last on that list, featuring camerawork from Nicolas Roeg and a beautiful set design unlike just about anything else in Corman's extensive filmography.
Also included is Witchfinder General, a historically focused horror gem where Price delivers one of the most sinister performances of his career. And the Abominable Dr. Phibes, a splashy camp spectacle of set design and creativity. Leaving only the Haunted Palace as the forgettable entry in this extremely well-curated collection.
