Samurai Jack: The Complete Series | Blu-ray

If you grew up in the late 90s and early 2000s, Genndy Tartakovsky was an almost unavoidable part of your childhood. The creator of Dexter's Lab, The Powerpuff Girls, and the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated shows was a powerhouse figure in the world of popular children's entertainment. That said, of all his great projects, Samurai Jack stands out as the animation director's most creative and flexible work.

Modeled after classic Chanbara serials like Lone Wolf and Cub, Zatoichi, and Sleepy Eyes of Death, the show tells the tale of a noble prince in feudal Japan, transported thousands of years into the future by an evil sorcerer. Now in a world overrun by evil, crafted in the sorcerer's image, he must fight to return home and change the past.

With superb voice work from Phil LaMarr and Mako, Samurai Jack finds Tartakovsky at the perfect crossroads of his more serious, genre-driven works like Clone Wars and Primal, and the kind of broad humor that made his early shows such huge successes. The rare 'freak of the week' animated project that manages to carry a larger story arc to a meaningful conclusion.
