There's a common theme among 80s and 90s cinema. Where movies that seemed like generic actioners at the time look more and more like unique classics as time goes by. It's true of Carlitos Way, Ronin, and The Rock. It's absolutely true of Road House.

A neo-western of sorts, this Patrick Swayze star vehicle reads like a love note to macho dude culture. But scratch the surface and viewers will find a film with a rich sense of community and togetherness (and even some intentions of non-violence).

Ben Gazzara gives one of the great villain performances of his career, Sam Elliott was never cooler. And pro-wrestling fans even get a healthy dose of the legend Terry Funk. Filled to the brim with rowdy bar fights and hilarious one-liners, Road House is every bit a classic.
