Righting Wrongs | Blu-ray

Righting Wrongs is one the most singular entries in the Hong Kong beat-'em-up sub-genre of martial arts. Largely dominated by Jackie Chan and his slapstick comedy stylings, it's rare to find a beat-'em-up picture that can find a comfortably serious tone.

The pinnacle of noted action director Corey Yuen's career tells the tale of a triangle of violence between vengeful lawyer Jason Ha Ling-Ching (Yuen Biao), dedicated cop Cindy Si (Cynthia Rothrock), and corrupt police superintendent Wong Ching-Wai (Melvin Wong). With all sides pitted against each other Righting Wrongs offers little in the way of comic relief, opting instead to tell a tale of revenge and its price.

The movie was, in fact, such a tone shift from the genre standard, that after its initial release that Golden harvest ordered several sections re-filmed to give the movie a happier tone. All versions are included in this box set, and while none could be described as upbeat, Righting Wrongs makes for one of the most startling and meaningful films of its ilk in all its forms.
