When people talk about the death of traditional journalism, this probably isn't what they had in mind.

They heyday of TV News created a cottage industry in the era before everyone and their dog was packing a mobile camera that could record high definition video. "If it bleeds, it leads" has been the mantra for news editors as long news editors have been a thing. Nightcrawler is an exploration of the seedier underbelly of TV news and the people that find work in that ecosystem recording and selling videos of automobile accidents, crime scenes, and other high profile events.

A less lucrative industry now that every bystander is potential competition, but a nonetheless stark reminder of the cutthroat nature of a 24-hour news cycle. One of Jake Gyllenhaal's best performances and a pitch perfect role for Bill Paxton as well.
