Much like Terminator & T2 raised the bar for expectations of big budget action cinema, Jurrasic Park redefined the family blockbuster experience. With a PG-13 rating, the film managed to be a special effects showcase that was part horror, part action, and part adventure and became one of the highest grossing films of all time. A staple of 90s slumber parties everywhere.

Anchored by an amazing cast including Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Richard Attenborough (with just a dash of Samuel L. Jackson for good measure), Spielberg proved that Hollywood could make high profile dramatic films targeted to the whole family.

More than any other film, Jurrasic Park marks the birthplace of the modern blockbuster formula in tone and subject. A milestone in cinematic history.
