One of the greatest "what could have been" moments in film history. In the early 1970s, noted TV writer Brian Clemens put together the concept for a new swashbuckling action hero. Accompanied by his hunchbacked assistant, former soldier turned vampire hunter Captain Kronos roams the countryside saving beautiful women and battling the legions of the undead.
In Clemens' vision, there are many, many types of vampire, each with its own specific traits, habits, and weaknesses. Before Kronos can figure out how to kill these demons, he must first determine their precise nature. It sounds awesome. It is awesome.
Unfortunately for Clemens, his awesome idea came at a point when Hammer was floundering. Their style of horror cinema was waning in the face of more modern, violent slashers, giallo, and zombie pictures. Casting German actor Horst Janson (who had to be entirely dubbed) didn't help either. So the Kronos universe stopped at just one, unique, highly enjoyable film.
